What We’re Thankful For…

We’re thankful for our military, many of which don’t have the luxury of coming home for the holidays. There are many organizations that help by offering programs to ensure our military get a taste of home. Of course, we recommend a cup of home.

We’ve been doubling orders to military APO/FPO addresses to the tune of more 19,000 pounds of coffee given to support our servicemen and servicewomen. Send 4 bags of coffee to your loved one and we’ll match your order plus throw in an offical Community Coffee Military Match mug.

Enjoy your holiday and turkey and remember to be thankful for those serving to protect our freedom.

Thanksgiving – Last Minute Tips

shutterstock_2636008We’ll be quick because Thanksgiving is here. So even if you’re an experienced cook who’s prepared Thanksgiving dinner multiple times, there are ways to make the meal taste better and the preparation more seamless. Here are quick last minute tips to help you pull off the holiday dinner without a hitch.

  • Heat plates and meat platters at 300 degrees for 5 minutes so food will stay hot longer.
  • Ice, ice and more ice. It is always needed in big quantities. Get what you think you need, and then add an extra bag.
  • Let the turkey rest after roasting by removing it from the roasting pan and letting it sit about 20 minutes before carving. The juices will go back into the meat, giving you a moister main dish.
  • Toasting nuts will intensify the flavor of pecans and other nuts used in salads and other dishes. Put them on a cookie sheet and bake in a 350-degree oven about 7-8 minutes.shutterstock_627603

Finally, you’ve worked hard so enjoy your party plus our special offer on some delicious coffee. Happy Thanksgiving!

Cake of the Week: Sweet Potato Coffee Cake with Caramel Glaze

Community Coffee Company:

Community® coffee goes well with Coffee Cake:)

If you’re looking for something to wow your family and guests this week, this Sweet Potato Coffee Cake is for you. Not only can you serve cake for breakfast or an afternoon snack, it has swirls of brown-sugar-cinnamon and is topped with a caramel glaze. Your guests will remember it long after their Thanksgiving food comas have subsided!

While this cake is impressive in its presentation, it isn’t something you can just whip up. Because the dough has to rise in two different steps (for two hours total), this would be a good cake to prepare ahead of time or the day before you plan to serve it. It’s full of sweet potato and cinnamon flavor, and a little orange zest. Those flavors plus the caramel drizzle take this coffee cake over the top!

You could also top it with some chopped pecans or cranberries. In the reviews and ratings…

Brew Up Your Own Holiday Cheer

Tart DessertsCoffee and dessert pairings are very similar to choosing the right wine for a meal. Coffee grown in various parts of the world and roasted at different levels will produce subtly different flavors. These flavors are the perfect accent for various types of desserts – whether they’re tart, fruited, creamy, chocolate or spiced. The trick is to use coffee made with the highest quality Arabica beans and one that supports the flavor notes in the dessert.

Here are a few desserts that are commonly served in homes and restaurants, along with each dessert’s complementary coffee:

  • Pecan pie (caramel flavor) – Café Special®, Breakfast Blend (smooth and mellow)
  • Cheesecake (creamy dessert) – Café Special® (fragrant and slightly nutty)
  • Fruit pie (tangy) – Medium Roast (fruity flavor)
  • Chocolate cake (strong and rich) – Dark Roast, Breakfast Blend. You’ll need a dark roast to stand up to the flavor!

RichCakesA general rule of thumb: the richer the dessert (i.e. chocolate, praline or peanut butter flavoring), the darker the roast.

Another option is to make the coffee the dessert.
Who would have thought to combine the rich Southern dessert of bread pudding with the best tasting coffee? We did. We’ve highlighted the flavors of the season with our new Bread Pudding variety. No heavy syrups, just the coffee customer’s love roasted with the right touch of caramel and brown sugar flavoring.

Savor sippable holiday treats like Community Coffee Company’s new Bread Pudding, or traditional seasonal favorites like its Bananas Foster and Pecan Praline.

For four generations, we’ve gone beyond to help make the holidays more festive – and more delicious. So take your next party from beyond good – to great.
You’ll find these coffees at grocery stores as well as on our website along with a coffee pairing guide.

Keep in mind during this holiday season that coffee gift sets can make a great hostess gift as well as a unique present for any coffee connoisseur. Coffee lovers have a variety of items from which to choose to fit any budget and taste preference. Check out CommunityCoffee.com.

Beyond Brave: Honoring Veterans Day

“To us in America, the reflections of Armistice Day will be filled with solemn pride in the heroism of those who died in the country’s service and with gratitude for the victory, both because of the thing from which it has freed us and because of the opportunity it has given America to show her sympathy with peace and justice in the councils of the nations.” — U.S. President Woodrow Wilson proclaiming Armistice Day for November 11, 1919.

Flag_CupIn 1926, Congress adopted a resolution declaring November 11 as Armistice Day, and then changed the name to Veterans Day in 1954.

Since then, Veterans Day is a time to remember and recognize those brave men and women who have gone into harm’s way and the sacrifices they have made to protect our freedom. We owe our freedoms to the sacrifice made by our nation’s veterans.

Every day, our U.S. military men and military women show us what it truly means to go beyond. It can be so important to our servicemen and servicewomen to get a care package from home. And, of course, we’d suggest a little cup of home — a great cup of coffee goes a long way to provide comfort.

Final_MilitaryMatchPageCommunity Coffee Company would like to express a sincere THANK YOU to all veterans past, present and future. And to that end, we have been doubling coffee orders sent to our troops overseas since 2008 and have donated more than 19,500 pounds of coffee.

Through our Military Match program, customers can purchase four bags of Community® coffee for those serving abroad and the company will match the order with four additional bags to military addresses (APO/FPO addresses). All eight bags plus a signature Military Match mug will be shipped to the APO/FPO address provided.

We encourage you to find a way to show your support of our troops this Veterans Day.
